'All clear' for base land transfers By Seth Koenig Brunswick Times Record (ME) January 28, 2011BRUNSWICK - The Navy announced today it has issued its long-awaited record of decision on an Environmental Impact Statement for the closing Brunswick Naval Air Station - a landmark step in the closure process that allows the Navy to begin transferring ownership of base properties to civilian developers. With the impact study complete, Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) officials say they expect to take ownership of the approximately 800-acre base airport as early as next month. "It was the last milestone that needed to be completed before the Navy could begin the transferring process," said Steve Levesque, executive director of the MRRA, the group charged with overseeing base redevelopment. "Now the Navy is free to begin transferring properties to appropriate recipients, whether it’s MRRA, Family Focus, Bowdoin College, (Southern Maine Community College) or the town of Brunswick." ...
