Process for reuse of Willow Grove Naval Air Station discussed in Horsham By Thomas Celona Montgomery News (PA) February 8, 2011Horsham Township residents had their first chance to hear about the 10-month process for creating a reuse plan for the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base during a public meeting Monday night. With a standing-room-only crowd packing the township community center, the Horsham Township Authority, or the Horsham Land Reuse Authority (HLRA), introduced residents to the firm that will be developing the reuse master plan and implementation strategy for the base. The U.S. military designated the Willow Grove base as surplus in September 2010, and the base was ordered to be closed as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Act. All military aircraft set to be gone by this April and the base will close Sept. 15. The base leaves 892 acres of surplus property in Horsham — approximately 7 percent of the township's total acreage — along with approximately 54 acres in Bucks County. ...
