Health hazards close Alburgh highway garage closed; options are few

Town employees were ordered out of the building after tests showed a variety of health hazards, some stemming from the 1960s, when the site was a U.S. Department of Defense missile site.

Alburgh has no immediate prospects to relocate town public works employees, trucks and equipment. "Currently, we don’t have a plan in place," said Alburgh Selectboard Chairman James Hokenberg.

He said highway workers only stop by the garage to pick up or drop off equipment or just spend brief periods of time there.
