Does anyone know what is happening at Sunflower? The DOD's annual report to Congress confirms that there is no future cleanup money in the pipeline?

Subject: SFAAP to care taker status

During the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant (SFAAP) Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meeting of 3/9/11 we were told the environmental clean up of the closed & polluted SFAAP was being stopped due to lack of Army money, and SFAAP would be put in Care Taker Status.

We were told this was caused by the fact the Army would not supply any more money for the environmental clean up of SFAAP.

We were told this would happen as soon as the small amount of Army funds the contractor has on hand runs out.

Thus Johnson County and De Soto could or will have a closed and polluted 3 by 6 square mile area setting in their back yard for years?

What will happen to the status of the De Soto water plant, well field, grass fire protection and the continued pollution?

It appears this problem is caused by the fact the good old U. S. of A. is broke.

Jim Oyler, RAB member
