House Passes Bill To Delay BRAC Move Bill still to be approved by Senate By TOM FITZGERALD Fox 5 TV News (DC) May 26, 2011WASHINGTON - On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed a bill to delay the opening of the Defense Department’s massive Mark Center office building. Critics warned if it opened as planned in September, a traffic jam nightmare would have turned I-395 into a parking lot. What is remarkable about this is that for the first time in the 20- year history of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission, the Pentagon is being given the power to delay a BRAC decision and in the process, delay some concerns about a possible traffic nightmare. Virginia Congressman Jim Moran has been trying to hit the breaks on this enormous Mark Center project that he warns will trigger a traffic nightmare. ...
