Base gears up for general aviationMARCH ARB: Despite nearby opposition, the FAA says the facility is obligated to accept the traffic unless it poses a danger. By KIMBERLY PIERCEALL Riverside Press-Enterprise (CA) June 8, 2011The idea of general aviation flights buzzing above Riverside as the small planes land and take off at the March Air Reserve Base runway has raised the ire of a nearby neighborhood. And at least one commissioner of the March Joint Powers Commission has publicly wondered if the authority should get out of the general aviation business altogether. The March Joint Powers Authority, which oversees the redevelopment of former March Air Force Base property including a portion to serve as a civilian airport, has grant agreements with the Federal Aviation Administration and land deeds with the Air Force that require the airport to be open to the public for flying at any hour of the day.
