Friction over plans for vacated Walter Reed land WTOP Radio (DC) July 11, 2011WASHINGTON - Various local, regional and federal organizations are vying for the land that will be vacated once the Walter Reed Army Medical Center closes at the end of the summer. The 113-acre site along Georgia Avenue in D.C. is set to be split once the medical center relocates as part of the federal government's BRAC plan. Around 67 acres of the site will become property of the D.C. city government. Under a proposal that was once voted down, the land is now being targeted for retail and residential use. ...
