According to a spokesman with the US Army, this transfer is unprecedented among BRAC closures, both for the volume of property leased and because it occurred seamlessly, reducing the number of buildings scheduled to be mothballed by the US Army beginning September 15th. To date, the successful transfer of residential units from the US Army to the FMA has allowed many military families the opportunity to stay in their homes and make the commute to Fort Eustis and other military installations in the Hampton Roads area without relocating. ...
