Report: Army needs to monitor old landfills By PAMELA WOOD Annapolis Capital (MD) August 14, 2011The Army should continue to monitor old landfills at Tipton Airport and keep people away from them, according to a new review. As part of the extensive environmental cleanup at Fort George G. Meade, the plans for the old landfills at the airport - which once belonged to the Army - are up for review. The airport area has three inactive landfills on it, including one that sits underneath the runway. The 366-acre airport facility was transferred from the Army to the Anne Arundel County government in 1999 as part of a previous base realignment and closure process. ...
