MRRA, Navy agree on land deal
Board also OKs housing agreement negotiations

BRUNSWICK - Redevelopment officials announced Tuesday that they have  
reached an agreement with the U.S. Navy to acquire more than 1,000  
acres and associated buildings at the former Brunswick Naval Air  
Station for $10.6 million through an economic development conveyance.

Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority executive director Steve  
Levesque said Tuesday that the two entities are “ready to sign deeds  
and transfers” on the properties in Brunswick and Topsham, with the  
deal expected to close before the end of 2011.

“For those of you who haven’t heard the cymbals clash, this is what  
we have been waiting for,” MRRA board member John Moncure said  
following a unanimous vote by the board to authorize the purchase  
agreement. “It’s a great deal.”
