Weighing in on future of FORA Organization's extension, structure focus of forum By JIM JOHNSON Monterey Herald (CA) December 2, 2011Most of those who attended Thursday's forum on the future of the Fort Ord Reuse Authority seemed to agree it should be extended past its expiration date in 2014. But there was broad disagreement about exactly how FORA's authority should be extended, and whether significant changes to its governance structure and its overarching vision should, or even could, be revised. Public debate about FORA's future, and by extension the reuse of the former military base, began in earnest at the well-attended forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Monterey Peninsula at the Oldemeyer Center in Seaside. After overview presentations from Carmel Assemblyman Bill Monning, Rep. Sam Farr's aide Alec Arago and FORA executive officer Michael Houlemard, a panel of public officials and local interest group representatives spent the majority of the forum discussing their positions on FORA's future.
