Mediation ends in contamination case Salina Journal (KS) March 26, 2012Salina public entities and the United States of America have agreed to end mediation and push toward a settlement in the lengthy case of contamination at the former Schilling Air Force Base. The base was closed in the mid-1960s and a plume of pollution, primarily the solvent TCE, or tricholoroethylene, is in the soil and groundwater that is moving toward city water wells. The public entities, that includes the city of Salina, Salina Airport Authority, Salina School District and Kansas State University at Salina, filed a federal lawsuit in 2010, aiming for a settlement to clean up the pollution. ...
