State warns of Wurtsmith fish

OSCODA TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Community Health warns people not to eat fish from a marsh apparently contaminated by chemicals from the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.

The department said it issued the warning Wednesday based on pumpkinseed and bluegill fish samples taken in 2011 from Clark’s Marsh. It’s in Iosco County’s Oscoda Township, just south of the base and about 65 miles north-northeast of Bay City.
