Tooele County worried about abandoned munitions in recreation areas
Public safety - Public meeting Wednesday will explore safe removal and disposal.

"Decades" of abandoned munitions and explosives near the Utah Test and Training Range are causing safety concerns in Tooele County.
 
Representatives from Hill Air Force Base, the Bureau of Land Management and the Tooele County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss disposal of the munitions.

Committee Chair Sgt. Harry Shinton said the pieces pose a serious public safety threat to hikers and recreationists visiting the west desert.
 
Shinton said technicians from Hill Air Force Base are cleaning up the area, but are faced with years of ignored hazardous munitions.
