Army to re-form Badger plant advisory board

BARABOO - The Army plans to disband and reorganize a citizen advisory  
board critical of its environmental cleanup efforts at Badger Army  
Ammunition Plant.

Joan Kenney, the Army's representative at Badger, said the changes  
aren't a criticism of the local officials and residents who sit on  
the Restoration Advisory Board.

Rather, she said, the changes reflect the Army at Badger not being in  
accordance with the rules established by the Department of Defense,  
which governs Restoration Advisory Boards.

Kenney said the shakeup of the board at Badger is to bring it in  
accordance with 2006 guidelines approved by the Department of Defense  
that require any RAB to represent all local parties and stakeholders  
interested in the environmental cleanup.

The Army released the results of a community survey to the board in  
May, and Kenney said 50 percent of the people surveyed either didn’t  
know about the board or felt it wasn’t representing their interests.
