100,000 protest U.S. Osprey in Okinawa

GINOWAN, Okinawa (Jiji Press)--A massive demonstration took place in Ginowan on Sunday, with participants protesting against the planned deployment of the controversial U.S. Osprey military aircraft at a key base in the city.

About 101,000 people participated in the rally, according to organizers. Protesters said, "Don't bring the Osprey to Futenma Air Station, the world's most dangerous military base."

Participants adopted a resolution urging the Japanese and U.S. governments to immediately cancel plans to deploy the MV-22 Osprey, a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, at the U.S. Marine Corps base in Ginowan.
