EPA OKs Navy plan for sub base cleanup Efforts to focus on soil, sediments on 102 acres The Day (CT) September 14, 2012Groton - The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday announced that it has approved the Navy's plan to clean up the area of the Naval Submarine Base known as the Lower Submarine Base. The EPA said in a news release that its signing of the Record of Decision on the plan will enable the Navy to begin the cleanup next year. The EPA said it coordinated with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Navy on the decision. Since 1990, the base has been listed on the EPA's National Priorities List for cleanup under the Superfund program, and several cleanup projects have been completed. ...
