Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] BIODEFENSE: Ft. Detrick (MD) lab considers how to release "incidents" data |
USAMRIID: Safety data posting to come Will detail lab incidents when employees deal with biological agents By Courtney Mabeus Frederick News Post (MD) December 8, 2012The U.S. Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases is continuing to work out plans to publicly post information about incidents that happen in labs where employees work with biological agents, spokeswoman Caree Vander-Linden said. Determining how to most clearly present information about the incidents in a way that can be easily understood has held up posting the information, Vander-Linden said Wednesday. She initially told the Containment Lab Community Advisory Committee in July the information could be posted within weeks, but Vander-Linden said this week that it has taken longer than initially expected. She could not estimate when the information would be posted but said it is close to being finalized. The plan to post information still has to be approved by USAMRIID leadership, she said. "This is something we've never done before," Vander-Linden said. The information will include a breakdown of incidents that happen in biocontainment level 3 and 4 labs -- in which employees work with agents such as anthrax and Ebola, among others -- and is broken down by spills, slips, trips and falls, cuts, and other possible methods of exposure. It will also be broken down by the number of employee entrances into the labs, Vander-Linden said. ... For the entire article, seehttp://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/news/display.htm?
