Restoration and remembrance on Presidio Hill John King San Francisco Chronicle October 16, 2013 To begin to grasp the complexity of today's Presidio, the 1,491-acre enclave where a procession of ridges twist and turn, avoid the obvious stops like Crissy Field or the Main Post. Instead, follow the Bay Area Ridge Trail along the slope of Presidio Hill from Inspiration Point to the national cemetery. That short journey - well under a mile - slices through the center of the former Army base that in 1994 was added to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
