A mess to address By TIM UNRUH Salina Journal (KS) November 21, 2013 Another step in the long mission to address contamination at the former Schilling Air Force Base has begun, but actual cleanup is still years away. An engineer and a hydrologist from Dragun Corporation and Kansas Department of Health and Environment officials provided an overview of the next task in the process to 31 people Wednesday night at Kansas State University at Salina. The Salina Public Entities -- the city, airport authority, Salina School District and KSU-Salina -- hired Dragun to investigate contamination at the former Air Force base, where contaminants were released and are threatening the city's water supply. KDHE is overseeing the work, which aims to update past investigations by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the federal Environmental Protection Agency and to map a plan to clean up the contaminants. ...
