New regulation would allow dependents to claim contaminated water
health issues
By Adelina Colbert Jacksonville Daily News (NC) September 24, 2014The Department of Veterans Affairs is expected to publish two regulations today, including one that will allow veterans’ family members who lived aboard Camp Lejeune to make claims for health issues that may have developed as a result of exposure to contaminated water on the installation decades ago. Within the second regulation, family members of veterans who lived aboard Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between Jan. 1, 1957, and Dec. 31, 1987, are eligible for a program that will cover out-of- pocket expenses for certain illnesses. Family members will have to provide documentation, such as marriage license or birth certificate, to prove their relationship to a veteran and copies of orders or base housing records as proof of residence. ...
