Transfer of ownership of Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base Willow  
Grove delayed till end of next year

With groundwater and radiological issues in need of being addressed,  
transfer of ownership of the former Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve  
Base Willow Grove may not start until at least the end of next year,  
a Navy official confirmed to the Horsham Land Redevelopment Authority  
Oct. 15.



The Willow Grove base was shuttered in September 2011, under the 2005  
Base Realignment and Closure Act, and Horsham Township created the  
HLRA to implement a redevelopment plan for 862 acres that the Navy  
had designated as surplus. In May 2014, the HLRA issued a Request for  
Proposals to seek a master developer for the property. After  
acquiring the site from the Navy, the HLRA was to sell it to the  
master developer.



Gregory Preston, director of the Navy's BRAC Program Management  
Office East, reported to the authority’s board on the status of  
several different tracks related to progress on the project.
