Get depleted uranium out of JPG Editorial Madison Courier (IN) December 6, 2014 The U.S. government needs to be told in no uncertain terms that anything short of removing all of the depleted uranium from Jefferson Proving Ground is unacceptable. The United States has spent about $200 billion rebuilding the bomb-scarred countries of Iraq and Afghanistan. Surely, the money can be found to rid JPG of the depleted uranium and unexploded ordnance that remain on about 2,000 acres of the 55,000-acre JPG site where the military tested weapons until the mid-1990s. The Army wants to dodge its responsibility of monitoring the area, let alone clearing it, because a cleanup would be too dangerous and too expensive. Tell that to the kids we saw getting off a school bus Wednesday afternoon on the "safe" side of the fence surrounding JPG. … For the entire editorial, see http://madisoncourier.com/main.asp?SectionID=181&SubSectionID=301&ArticleID=87288&TM=38227.94 -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
