National voices join M6 open burn opposition

Dozens of documents posted in recent weeks on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s website related to the M6 explosives threat at Camp Minden almost take a science degree to decipher.

But citizens who have spent the past few days perusing the hundreds of pages have been able to pluck out details that continue to raise their alarm level about an open burn disposal method and further bolster their opposition, which received a national boost Monday from 71 social and environmental justice organizations across the U.S.

In a letter to EPA assistant administrator Cynthia Giles, the groups express support of Louisiana residents, workers and families in their call for a safer alternative to possibly the largest open munitions burn in the nation’s history.
