Event to envision Fort Ord as tourist destination

Imagine the opportunity to pour significantly more money into Monterey County's $2.3 billion tourism industry – on both sides of the Lettuce Curtain.

That's exactly what the Fort Ord Reuse Authority has in mind Thursday when it and other regional agencies host the Fort Ord Trails Symposium, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at California State University Monterey Bay's University Center.

Organizers say the event is an opportunity to learn about and help plan the future of this region's economic vitality by connecting outdoor recreation, regional trail systems and transit alternatives as part of recreational development of Fort Ord National Monument.
