Gov. Hassan urges state to expand Pease blood testing

PORTSMOUTH — Gov. Maggie Hassan has ordered the state Department of  
Health and Human Services to broaden its blood testing protocol "to  
accommodate as many people as necessary" who were exposed to  
contaminated water at the Pease International Tradeport.

Hassan's communications director, William Hinkle, said in a statement  
that Hassan understands "how frustrating this has been for those who  
were potentially exposed to the contaminant," especially the parents  
of young children at two day-cares on the tradeport, which is the  
former Pease Air Force Base, a Superfund site.

The contaminated water was found in the city-owned Haven well.

In addition, Hassan has directed HHS to "evaluate the options for  
follow-up blood tests and to reach out to the United States Air Force  
to pay for the costs," Hinkle said late Tuesday afternoon.
