Pensacola Navy base confronts environmental clean-up

Civilian and military environmental specialists will join forces in a massive clean-up of polluted sites Pensacola Naval Air station.

As part of the Pentagon's Installation Restoration Program, six locations at PNAS will undergo remedial actions to reduce the levels of suspected toxic materials in groundwater and soil.

"Most of the chemicals or contamination came from past industrial processes and operations," said environmental engineer Greg Campbell, project manager of the Pensacola NAS Restoration Program.
