City pushes Air Force for further water studies By Jeff McMenemy Seacoast Online June 14, 2015 PORTSMOUTH – The city has asked the U.S. Air Force for roughly $800,000 so officials can continue trying to find a new well location to replace the Haven Well that it closed when it became contaminated with “a contaminant of emerging concern.” Deputy City Attorney Suzanne Woodland said Friday the city recently made the request to continue “the hydrogeological studies, which would include up to 18 test wells, to try to locate alternative water systems.” The Air Force has not yet responded to the request, Woodland said. “The Air Force moves a bit slowly in comparison to what the city can do,” Woodland said. In addition, Woodland said, city officials have asked consultants hired by the city to explore treatment options should the contaminant exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s provisional health advisory in the other two city-owned wells at Pease International Tradeport, the former Pease Air Force Base. If they find a viable treatment option, the city will be “seeking reimbursement for the treatment options,” Woodland said. … For the entire article, see http://www.fosters.com/article/20150614/NEWS/150619639 -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
