Cleanup of Kirtland Air Force Base fuel spill underway By Ollie Reed Jr. Albuquerque Journal (NM( June 24, 2015 Don’t worry about the Air Force meeting the June 30 deadline for extracting water contaminated by the Kirtland Air Force Base fuel spill. The cleanup project’s first extraction well started pulling water tainted by the spill out of the ground June 4, representatives of the Air Force and the New Mexico Environment Department said recently. Adria Bodour, the Air Force’s lead scientist on the project, said 62,000 gallons of water have been pumped out by the extraction well in the west parking lot of Christ United Methodist Church at 6200 Gibson Blvd. SE.
