Fort Ord Reuse Authority gives citizens an update

Marina - Wednesday’s Fort Ord Reuse Authority meeting was a status report on where the Parker Flats and Seaside parcels are in the Environmental Services Cooperative Agreement process.

The goal was to give the audience of about 40 people attending the informal community workshop an overview of the processes involved in finding and clearing ordnance from the land slated for handover to civilian use and assessing any future risk and determining remedies.

“We also took this opportunity to update on the document process for other properties, then talk about land that is transferred,” said Aimee Houghton, Westcliffe Engineers.

But the bulk of the presentation by Jeff Swanson, of Westcliffe Engineers, centered around the multilayered process of investigating the parcels to detect spent or unused ordnance, removing the material, reporting on what was found, evaluating what to do next, certifying regulations have been met and producing the land transfer documentation needed before the parcels can be handed off to the cities for developme
