State lawmakers applaud Army Engine Plant grant

Stratford’s state representatives are pleased to hear about the $200,000 state grant that will be used for investigatory work at the Stratford Army Engine Plant.

In a joint statement, state Reps. Joe Gresko, Laura Hoydick and Ben McGorty and State Sen. Kevin Kelly announced their support for the grant, which Gov. Dannel Malloy announced on Wednesday. The grant was part of an $8.7 million outlay to help revitalize and remediate brownfield properties in order for them to be put back into productive use. The grant was among several issued through the state Department of Economic and Community Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program.

“Considering the proposed site development includes a residential component, further study of the level of remediation necessary is most welcome,” said Gresko, who took over as the 121st District state representative on Feb. 3 after winning a special election to succeed the late Rep. Terry Backer.
