[The site featured in this article appears to be a civilian site, not a military one. - LS] Tests show one South Fairbanks home had high PFC contamination Fairchild News-Miner March 9, 2016 FAIRBANKS - One South Fairbanks well among 10 wells sampled this month had perfluorinated compound levels at above the provisional health advisory level set by the Environmental Protection Agency. The one affected home and its nearest neighbors have been offered bottled water delivery from the city until these homes can be connected to city water, according to a Monday news release from the city. The city of Fairbanks is testing private wells around the Regional Fire Training Center, 1710 30th Ave., because for 30 years, firefighters practiced there with a product called Aqueous Film Forming Foam, a substance that contains a perfluorinated compound (PFC) now suspected of being toxic to humans. The same contamination problem was reported last year in the Moose Creek neighborhood outside of Eielson Air Force Base. The Moose Creek contamination is also believed to be caused by Aqueous Film Forming Foam. … For the entire article, see http://www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/tests-show-one-south-fairbanks-home-had-high-pfc-contamination/article_07cd7d02-e68d-11e5-ae6c-abfcec9e89c9.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
