Navy responds to congressmen about water contamination in Bucks, Montgomery counties

The U.S. Navy has responded to a letter written earlier this month by a trio of Pennsylvania congressmen who questioned the Navy’s response to drinking water contamination of public and private wells around three former and current military bases in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Dated March 22, the Navy’s response said it is taking “aggressive, proactive actions to identify potential release sites, eliminate unacceptable exposures, and conduct clean-up actions where the Navy is responsible for the contamination.” The letter also notes that the Air National Guard Bureau is responsible for some of the cleanup efforts in Horsham.

Two pages of the response letter provided an overview of the contamination, in which approximately 100 wells in Bucks and Montgomery have been found to contain high levels of perfluorinated chemicals PFOA and PFOS.
