Old naval base near Grand Prairie may be repurposed for homeless Tent City exiles by Tasha Tsiaperas Dallas Morning News May 2, 2016 A retired naval base could have new life as the solution to homelessness in Dallas if an ambitious plan by a local businessman comes to fruition. The proposal calls for establishing a sanctioned campsite for homeless people at Hensley Field, the site of a former naval air station near Grand Prairie. The plan hinges on up to $50 million in private donations to also build tiny homes and other living facilities on the 350-acre lot. Cedars Neighborhood Association president Michael Sitarzewski sent his 20-page proposal to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and City Council members Sunday.
