New wells digging deeper at former NOP By Sam Farmer May 25, 2016 MEAD – Deep issues face the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working to treat underground water at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant near Mead, as recent results from bedrock test wells showed concentrations of RDX and TCE above desired action levels. Edwin Long, senior project manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, made the announcement at the treatment facility’s open house on May 18. Earlier this spring, three new clusters of monitoring wells were installed at the south end of the known plumes, but dug deeper into the bedrock aquifer than had been previously penetrated.
