Wolf wants military to pay for blood tests for 70K people in Bucks and Montgomery counties By Kyle Bagenstose Bucks County Courier-Times (PA) June 9, 2016 Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf issued a letter to the secretaries of the Navy and Air Force on Thursday, calling on the military to fund blood tests for nearly 70,000 residents of Warminster, Warrington and Horsham. The request comes toward the end of a week that saw a slew of action from local lawmakers, all with the goal of prompting the federal government to do more to address concerns over contamination of local water supplies with unregulated chemicals perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), which were widely used for decades at three area military bases. State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf, R-12, and state Reps. Bernie O'Neill, R-29, Todd Stephens, R-151, and Katherine Watson, R-144, co-signed the letter with Wolf. “We write to ask you to consider assisting the commonwealth with costs related to blood testing for the 69,987 citizens affected through municipal and private drinking water exposures,” said the letter, addressed to Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Secretary of the Air Force Deborah James. “We believe blood testing is critical to addressing the concerns of the private citizens who may have been exposed.” … For the entire article, see http://www.buckscountycouriertimes.com/news/horsham-pfos/wolf-wants-military-to-pay-for-blood-tests-for-k/article_edd1f738-2e81-11e6-abca-efa3e9146ac1.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
