WATER CONTAMINATION: Three more wells taken offline in Warminster

The recent announcement of new federal water quality standards by the federal Environmental Protection Agency has led to renewed interest across the region about the quality of water near two local former military bases.

Outside of Horsham, where three public wells were shut down last month, Warminster Township has also been affected by recently issued new standards by the EPA. The Warminster Municipal Authority has recently closed down three of its wells, in addition to three previously closed for remediation, and authority General Manager Tim Hagey said that was done out of an abundance of caution.

“Most of those wells were not over, but we had tests from the end of 2013 that had recorded over those limits, so in an abundance of caution,” the authority closed the three additional wells, Hagey said.
