Drinking water in three Colorado cities contaminated with toxic chemicals above EPA limits 80,000 people south of Colorado Springs being warned of high levels of PFCs in water By BRUCE FINLEY Denver Post (CO) June 15, 2016 Invisible toxic chemicals are contaminating drinking water for 80,000 people south of Colorado Springs, one of 63 areas nationwide where the chemicals, widely used to fight petroleum fires, have been measured at levels the EPA deems dangerous. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) don’t break down. Boiling water won’t get rid of them. Military airfields are suspected by Colorado health investigators as a point where the chemicals seeped into the Fountain Creek watershed north of Widefield, Fountain and Security. Air Force officials told The Denver Post it’s too early to tell. … For the entire article, see http://www.denverpost.com/2016/06/15/colorado-widefield-fountain-security-water-chemicals-toxic-epa/ -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
