Redevelopment plans unveiled for Fort Ritchie By Zach Glenn Waynesboro Record-Herald July 13. 2016 The latest chapter in the redevelopment journey of Fort Ritchie since the Army base was shuttered under the Base Realignment and Closure Commission nearly two decades ago was opened by Washington County Commissioners this week. The plan could mean millions of dollars for investment and about 3,000 jobs at Fort Ritchie, which was closed in the 1998 BRAC round. The build out of the Cascade Town Centre at Fort Richie would include mixed-used development with academic, commercial, residential and recreational uses. The ownership of the base is being signed away from the PenMar Development Corp., an organization created to bring jobs back to the area after the base's closure, and being given to Washington County.
