Water contaminants found at former Worcester Army Reserve Center By Dan Sokil Times-Herald (PA) September 6, 2016 WORCESTER - The same contaminants seen at similar bases in Horsham and Warminster in recent years have now been found on a former U.S. Army base on Berks Road in Worcester Township. The township has announced test results taken from a well inside the former U.S. Army Reserve Center have tested positive for two chemical contaminants, but there should be no impact to drinking water for local residents. “We don’t have all of the answers right now, because the board of supervisors decided to contact folks earlier rather than later,” said township Manager Tommy Ryan. “The board did not want to wait until additional tests were conducted, because this potentially is a public health issue.” PFOA and PFOS, perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, have both been linked to firefighting foams used at the former Willow Grove and Warminster bases, and public water wells in both townships have been taken offline as ways are developed to remove the contaminants. Worcester and the Army have been in discussions on a possible acquisition by the township of the 19-acre base, located to the northeast of Berks Road and Potshop Road and just west of Bean Road, according to Ryan and township archives. If the township acquires the property, according to the manager, it would be under the condition that it be used as a municipal park, “and there really hasn’t been more of a plan than that.” ...
