Base Clean-Up Team Discusses Water Contamination

The Joint Base Cape Cod Cleanup Team met Wednesday evening, April 12, at Camp Edwards to discuss the US Air Force’s investigations of potentially dangerous contaminants in groundwater and in public and private wells in Bourne, Falmouth and Mashpee.

The public meeting, which drew more than 30 people, also focused on the Air Force’s efforts to resolve environmental issues at the site of a fuel spill as well as studies of groundwater at a Joint Base firing range.

The multi-organizational team last met at Joint Base Cape Cod in October.

The contaminants of concern include compounds known as PFOA, PFOS and 1,4-dioxane that likely came from groundwater flowing from a former firefighter training base.
