More munitions cleanup for Fort Ord National Monument
Public meeting to be held in Seaside

Fort Ord - The northern portion of the Fort Ord National Monument will be subject to munitions cleanup in June and the Army will be seeking the public’s questions and feedback beforehand, according to an Army press release.

A public informational meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. May 23 at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course, 1 McClure Way, Seaside.

“They are planning for prescribed burns for this year,” said Jim Laughlin, Presidio of Monterey public affairs chief. “If the conditions are right, they can happen anytime between June and December.”

The munitions cleanup will begin in the northern portion of the monument on about 800 acres and will include areas that are currently open for public use, north of Eucalyptus Road, south of Watkins Gate/Gigling Road, and west of Barloy Canyon Road.
