Two possible unexploded mines wash up on Outer Banks beaches WITN (NC) September 25, 2017 OUTER BANKS, NC (WITN) - What appear to be two unexploded naval mines washed up on the shores of the Outer Banks on the same morning. Currituck County authorities say their object was found around 7:15 a.m. on Whale Head Beach. Sheriff's Lt. Jason Banks says an explosive team from Cherry Point determined it was a training mine. He said because the mine wasn't live, there was no danger to the public.
