Building collapses at Luckey beryllium cleanup site

Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune
January 26, 2020

LUCKEY — A portion of the building at the former Brush Wellman company site has collapsed, according to an update provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District.

The Corps is in the midst of a $240 million cleanup of the former beryllium production facility. It is officially referred to as the Luckey Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program Site.

"Many of those in the Luckey community may have noticed that a portion of the production building on the site has collapsed following the storm this past weekend,”
the Friday email update stated. "The Corps has cordoned off the area surrounding that portion of the building so that it does not present a danger to those that are working on the site."

Structural engineers will be visiting the site to determine the building’s structural stability and once that evaluation is complete, a decision will be on the next steps.
