Army engineers to report on munitions search at former Hingham Naval Depot

WEYMOUTH - An Army Corp. of Engineers consultant did not find any explosives or hazardous chemical contamination in the Back River and soil at the former Hingham Naval Ammunition Depot that borders Weymouth.

Weymouth Conservation Administrator Mary Ellen Schloss said Army engineers would highlight the investigation results during an online meeting with officials from both towns at 6 p.m. Oct. 15.

“It was a pretty extensive investigation,” she said. “They were in the water and on the land. Most of the work was done on the Hingham side, but they were on the Weymouth side.”

The remedial fieldwork was completed in 2019 by Pika Arcadis Joint Venture, a Stafford, Texas-based firm.
