Department of Defense begins new study of Air Guard base PFAS contamination

The Department of Defense has begun a study to determine clean-up measures for PFAS chemicals at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base.

The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced the program this week and said it is part of a national effort to identify and remove perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used for decades in firefighting foam.

Both the Battle Creek base and the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center will be studied.
