Federal judge OKs settlement with Hunters Point Shipyard homeowners By Laura Waxmann San Francisco Business Times (CA) March 22, 2021 A federal judge has issued preliminary approval of a $6.3 million settlement between the developers behind the Hunters Point Shipyard and new homeowners who claimed they were misled about the full extent of toxic contamination at the shipyard. The order by U.S. District Court Judge James Donato, issued Wednesday, still requires final approval at a hearing expected to take place in November. It is the first class-action settlement in a larger constellation of federal lawsuits filed in recent years over the environmental issues plaguing the San Francisco redevelopment site, including fraud in its radiological remediation. Settlement negotiations for most of the remaining lawsuits are ongoing. The lawsuit was initially filed in 2018 by four homeowners of Parcel A — the first site developed at the shipyard — but grew to include 662 plaintiffs in 347 condominium and townhouse units.
