Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] REUSE, COAST GUARD: "Developers plan to turn military buildings on Concord [CA] site into residential villages" |
Developers plan to turn military buildings on Concord site into residential villages By SHOMIK MUKHERJEE Bay Area News Group (CA) June 29, 2021 CONCORD — The new owners of a 59-acre former U.S. Coast Guard property want to transform the military housing there into two modern residential villages, a project the City Council said during a recent study session it would like to see include more housing. Developers Eddie Haddid and Georges Maalouf plan to renovate the cluster of vacant military buildings to create 286 new homes — 176 apartments, 80 duplex-style units and 30 four-bedroom townhouses. The housing, to include 28 affordable units, would be connected by private streets off East Olivera Road, right next to Olivera Field, where the city’s Little League games are played. The northern section of the villages would extend all the way up to BART’s North Concord/Martinez Station’s parking lot, a two-mile distance from the Coast Guard property’s southern end. Because the proposed housing villages would be so close to BART and directly west of the former Concord Naval Weapons Station, where a massive mixed-use project is envisioned, the council would like to see a far denser housing development for the Coast Guard site than the one proposed. … For the entire article, see https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/06/29/renovation-plans-at-concord-villages-gives-city-a-chance-to-add-more-housing/ — Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
