The fix for water contamination near Luke Air Force Base is months behind schedule. Here's why By Joshua Bowling Arizona Republic July 28, 2021 A long-term fix for the drinking water contamination around Luke Air Force Base was supposed to be in place by April. Three months later, a filtration system is there, but nearby residents and business owners may not get the OK to drink their water until mid-August. Early test results show the level of the problematic "forever chemicals" in the water is lower than the federal lifetime health advisory of 70 parts per trillion, base spokesperson Sean Clements said. But an issue with the filtration system will push the area's return to tap water back a few weeks, he said. The new system has a filter that catches solids and prevents them from making it into drinking water. That filter is too small and needs to be changed regularly.
