Residents with contaminated wells near Box Elder may get free water service By Siandhara Bonnet Rapid City Journal (SD) November 13, 2021 Residents on the southwest side of Ellsworth Air Force Base may get free water service from a potential new well near Black Hawk. The South Dakota Ellsworth Development Authority is working with the base to establish the new water well to serve those with contaminated water from firefighting foam activities on the base. Hundreds of residents and 26 private wells in the area were impacted with contamination of per and polyfluoroalkyl substances at levels 10 times what the Environmental Protection Agency deems safe.
